... but I'm glad I'd gotten the free tickets for this alternative!
I'd texted Sandy to say I'd decided to come along to Midtown Sports Grille after all for the aforementioned empty orchestra night. After all, today was her 57th birthday.
(smile!)
Joel and Elissa were there with her and all had chosen appetizers for dining.
I opted to not order, as they were at the end of their dishes and weren't staying for dinner.
Hey, I'm a very slow eater, a'ight?
Plus, I'd brought along tickets to another event.
Might they be interested in the "Wicked Good Spook-Easy" going on over at Sixby?
Justthatfast, those two whipped out their phones to look up the particulars!
I'd only ordered three of the free passes, but I doubted that would be an issue... so we all piled into Joel's car and headed off for this new venue.
It wasn't actually at Sixby so much as Sixby adjacent, in the area for patio dining, as well as behind the little breakfast-brunch place.
Hardly had we gotten there before I saw Jason Arons!
He had a chica at his table, so we grabbed the last table and a couple of chairs, then settled in to hear the open mic of "ghost stories"!
I don't remember all of them, but I do recall the one from pirate Dalton, representing The Nightly Spirits.
His story was all about the rotating cast of ghosts at Five Below, a discount store.
That certainly hit me as an odd place for spirits to hang about!
Jason took a turn at the microphone, representing Cobblestone Tours; so did Hodoo Joe and Madame Red of Spooky Savannah, Bridgit of The Witching Hour, and a whole slew of others.
Joel even tried out one of the boo-ze free drinks supplied by Curious Elixirs, but I don't think he quite liked it.
My favorite part of the show?
The songs about Delia Green, the 14-year-old girl shot dead on Christmas Day by her 15-year-old boyfriend back at the turn of the 20th century.
Hodoo Joe sang three different versions of the song, including the one that Johnny Cash had made famous, "Delia's Gone".
I certainly hadn't expected that!
What a nice introduction to some of the ghost tour groups here in Savannah!
But our night was not quite done.
As we sat in Joel's car when we pulled back up on Habersham, guess what song came up on his phone?
Donovan's "Season Of The Witch" - complete with black cat trotting across the street!
What a fitting end to our unplanned evening!
(smile!)
