post office let me down today...

I spent all day waiting for the mail carrier.
Before I set off on the bday67 girls' trip, I put a hold on my mail delivery.
There's nothing at all unusual about that.
I've done so for years, every time I'm going to be away for a few days.
I make sure that task is on my list of 'adulting' chores.

I arranged for the mail to be held at the Post Office on Victory Drive until today.
That's when it was to be delivered to me.
I knew in advance that it would be a large delivery, too.
They had mailed 'proof of life' photos of each day's mail, so I knew.
There was even a package to be delivered!
So, I stayed home and waited.

I didn't even work in the back yard for fear that I would miss it.
The grass back there is up to my waist almost!
Plus, the trees trimmed in the spring have sent new limbs springing forth.
Truly, it's a hot mess back there.
However, the USPS had sent me an email that my held mail was to be delivered today and I was taking no chances of the carrier thinking me not at home.

And time ticked on by.
I had hoped the mail would have come between 3 PM and 4 PM, as that seems to be the usual delivery time... but it didn't.
Then I recalled that the Monday delivery is sometimes as late as 6 PM, so I continued to wait.
Alas, still no mail arrived and no sign of the delivery vehicle.

At 7 PM, I was quite worked up about it.
I checked my email for a note that it had been postponed.
Nope, no such text had been sent to me.
Fine.
That's when I went to the USPS website and lodged a written complaint.

Meanwhile, I guess I will be waiting for the mail again tomorrow.

The mail was delivered to my waiting hands at 3:15 PM the very next day.
I also received a call from the clerk at the Victory Drive station, later that day, wanting to confirm that I had my backlog of mail.
If only they had done what they said they were doing in their email.
Ah, well.
Hopefully that lapse won't occur ever again.
