Did I say "in the 'hood"?
I did, because that's where the party was!
See that young woman blessing the food?
That's Joan Thompson, the organizer of this fete at Forrest Hills.
She's standing with her neighbors, Sara and Kenneth, as well as two of her kids.
This shot has two of the people I sat with and got to know for an hour. They're Lori and Josh, from Guam, and she made the chicken dish (like Nam Sod) and the beef (like Larb Na) that I so enjoy in Thai cuisine.
On my plate, those are at 5 o'clock and 1 o'clock, along with adobo cucumbers, red rice, pancit, lima beans, smoked pork butt, and white peach cobbler. The butt was cooked this morning by Dallas, husband of Joan, and it was yummy, but the cobbler I went back for seconds!
That was made by my other table mate, Jessie.
Get this: she and Lori were both in the health field, so we talked about college and chemistry and nursing!
We also talked about our travels in the world!
I had been concerned about coming alone, as I didn't know any of these people, but then I wound up sitting with people that were like me!
Right place, right time!
I'm so glad I walked over there on this hot day and took a chance!
(smile!)

What about Tony and Laura, with her son Josh and his two kids?
Didn't they come for this party?
Nope!
Tony and Josh stayed in from the 100 F weather and watched TV.
Laura and the kids went to the Bacon Park pool.
I'm glad they didn't go!
I might not have met Lori and Jessie had my brother been there.
Right place, right time!
Oh, I didn't mention the gray-haired woman in the middle photo.
She and I were most def the two oldest people there.
Her name is Pam Donlon and I hope to get to know her better, as I know she lives around here.
That wasn't true of everyone at the party.
Quite a few were friends and family of the Thompsons, in town visiting from North Carolina and elsewhere.
Again, I am so glad I went!
