I'm thrilled The Universe gave us sunshine and warmth for Christina's bday42!
Yes, it was time for the annual Savannah Jewish Cultural Arts Festival, and, like last year, almost all was free!
There were two cooking classes that had a fee, but I forewent those.
I also abstained from the repeat lecture from SJCAF3.
I was there for the film festival portion of the SJCAF4, thank you, and that began this month.
Shakespeare and Italy - what a grand combination "A Gathering Of Strangers" was for me!
Someone needs to add that film to IMDB... maybe I will do that.
(smile!)
March 4th, the first Tina Tuesday of the month, had me at a double header with a theme.
The first of the two found me in China with two spiritual beings related by a single pearl.
The second landed me in Poland with two estranged cousins related by a grandmother who was a Holocaust survivor.
"A Real Pain" had been brought to Cinema Savannah in January, but the extreme cold - and unreliable parking downtown - had kept me from seeing it.
Written by, directed by, and starring Jesse Eisenberg, it was Kieran Culkin who took home the Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his role as the caretaker who tried suicide after the death of the babcia he had so loved.
The other cousin set up this trip to spend some time with his lost cousin.
Very good movie about connections lost.
Two days later was to be an artist's reception and documentary, "Who Are The Marcuses?", but folks must have gotten the times wrong, as did I.
My thanks to Katie Griffin, the host, for giving me the movie link so I could still see it!
Perhaps I'll get a round tuit sometime soon.
Just a little pun that my Mama liked!
(smile!)
Next up was an entertaining jazz concert and art reception, again with a time change.
That was needlessly complicated by the Spring Forward time shift, but all worked in my favor, placing me there in time for the bluesy second half, which I loved.
Right place, right time!
The very next night (last Monday) found me at the JEA again, this time for the third film ("Between The Temples") of my rare triple header.
How very good to see Carol Kane again!
Also, that film was about aging and medical scares, so I could totally relate.
She's 72 now, six years older than me, and, like me, has never had children, choosing to be an alternate mother figure to the children of others, as I have.
(smile!)
With St. Patrick's Day near at hand, we dined on shepherd's pie - perfect!
"The Tribe", hosted by Sarah Docar, was a humorous take on the history of the Jews and the start of the Barbie doll.
My favorite part of the 20-year-old film?
Peter Coyote narrated it - I do so love his voice!
(smile!)
Did I say that was the final film?
That's because it was for me.
The day before was supposed to have "Eva Hesse", about the brief career of the materials artist, but that was rescheduled for Friday.
I had hoped for an afternoon screening, but it was shown at 10 AM.
Nope!
Perhaps I will find it elsewhere.
And so came to a close this year's 4th SJCAF.
Until next year... shalom!
(smile!)
