"Oh, I do so love that George Harrison song!!!"
Me, too, but how did you know I wasn't just making a statement?
"G'friend, please. You know I know you had that children's chorus thing today."
Ah, yes. Very hard to keep a secret from you, eh, chica?
"Damn straight! And just how was SING for this live performance?"
Those kids were fabulous! Some are from Asbury Memorial Church, but many are from here, there, and everywhere. The chorus has at least thirty singers! That's probably part of the reason the parking lot was full. You know, from their parents and families. Plus, I'd like to think that I'm not the only one that came that didn't have a dog in this hunt, you know what I mean?
"Girlie, I always know what you mean! I also suspect, though, that the lure of 'free' entertainment was a draw, too."
Partly, that's true. However, the title also pulled me in. "Here Comes The Sun: Songs of Hope & Resilience" - that's a real winner! I just wish they had some printed programs for the audience. I know there was a printed version somewhere, as the pages of it were posted as a mini-video on the fb page for Savannah Inspiring Next Generation. That's where I snagged that. Mostly, though, I'm glad I got to hear them live this time!
"Heard! Hahahaha! Got that little joke? Hahahaha!"
(smile!)
"So, what were your favorite parts of the program? I know you have some."
I do! One I didn't even know of until after I got home. See, I'd lingered too long at home and totally missed the first song... and the poem by Emily Dickinson that I so love! But at least the song - and the ribbon twirling!!! - was posted on fb and on youTube.
"How very fortunate for you! I wish they'd posted the poem reading, too."
Well, how about I post that here, right now? Fore safekeeping, you know.
*****
Hope is the thing with feathers
That perches in the soul,
And sings the tune without the words,
And never stops at all,
And sweetest in the gale is heard;
And sore must be the storm
That could abash the little bird
That kept so many warm.
I've heard it in the chillest land,
And on the strangest sea;
Yet, never, in extremity,
It asked a crumb of me.

"Yes, I do so love those words from Dickinson. I have to wonder, though, what they might mean to elementary and middle school students?"
Good question. Perhaps I'll have to bring that up with my great-nieces and great-nephews, see what they have to say about it.
"You do that! But, for now, tell me the highlights of the show you saw and heard this afternoon."
Well, I really liked "Ain't No Mountain High Enough", partly because Sam Johnson's sister, Helga Moore, sang it at his memorial service. He's been on my mind, you know.
"I know. It's April. Just a few more days until it's done. Now, go on..."
I always like "Let There Be Peace On Earth", as it's one we sing at Asbury. This time, it was the Savannah Men's Chorale that performed it - awesome! That was followed by "I Believe", the Mark Miller song which I love!!! The kids and the men sang that! And for the finale, the kids performed "Defying Gravity", complete with a practiced pantomime - such energy!!!
"Oh, I know they all liked that one!!!"
Yes, they did! It really perked them up for the post-concert photo shoot. (smile!)
"Most excellent! Then what did you do? I know that was a matinee concert, but you're posting this late. Did you make it to the show for One Spirit Dance Academy?"
I did not, sadly. I've got a couple of Shakespeare plays this coming week, plus some extra expenses for the yard. Then there's also the trip to Orlando with the first niece next month, with property taxes due before I get back from that. I've had to trim some stuff out, right, to prioritize what events I most want. I was talking to Cathy about that just moments ago.
"Cathy of California??? That's great!!!"
It was, it truly was!!! We talked for almost an hour, just me and her!!! She had called while I was at the concert and I called back after their dinner time. Really nice to catch up!"
"I know it was, little darling. Now, you wind on down, and I'll catch you later."
Thanks! I'll try to straighten up here a little before "The Honeymooners". That's my signal on Sunday that it's time for bed. (smile!)
