threesome

I'll wait while you dig your mind out of the gutter.
Hahahaha!!!
I'm talking about A*List movies, over at the AMC, taking advantage of this last warm day out of the next three or four.
Yesterday at that time in the photo, it was only 38 F, making me cancel my lab appointment at the Savannah VA.
Now, I have to wait almost two months for that.
Boo hiss.
I never left the house.
Not so today!
Time to get 'er done!
(smile!)
By noon30, I was in the screening room for the first of three: "Dead Man's Wire".
A true story about a man driven to distraction by a mortgage company, I could relate.
I'd never heard of Tony Kiritsis, but that was in February 1977, when I was 18 years old and still in boot camp for the Navy.
Nor did I hear of the court case in October 1977, when I was going through "C" School in Pensacola for the Bullseye Computer Maintenance program.
It didn't help that the tale was local to Indianapolis.
I will say that Bill Skarsgard was excellent, as always.
I didn't even recognize Cary Elwes as his buddy, the undercover cop!
In my defense, I'd just seen him last Sunday in "The Princess Bride", where he was 38 years younger (he is currently 63 years old).
Great music in this film, and everything - even the film method - felt just like it had stepped out of the late 1970's.
Kudos to Gus Van Sant and company!

After a walk, I had lunch at the cinema.
The manager, Trey, told me he "made them with love", and I truly believe he did!
Those pretzel bites were absolutely perfect - crispy on the outside, but not hard.
I saved a few to munch for my second movie, "Greenland 2: Migration".
That was at 3:30, which fit exactly with the time for Carolyn's first movie... the one I'd just seen.
I knew she'd seen the Gerard Butler post-apocalypse movie already, so I'd switched up on her.
See, I'd asked her to meet me for the 1977-era movie, but when I saw I could have a threesome today instead of a duo, I just had to do it, especially as I knew the foul cold weather on its way tomorrow.
"Chance of snow" - no, thanks!!!
Definite chance of black ice, with three mornings below freezing.
That, to me, is apocalyptic!

Anyway, when each of our movies were done, off to dinner she and I went to El Potro!
I'd missed the Friday Fiesta with my brothers and she wanted flan - the choice was perfect!
We discussed our movies as we dined, then, back to AMC we went for the 7 PM show!
Yes, that would complete my trio and give her a double header!
"Night Patrol" was very well attended, too!
I guess everyone likes a good vampire movie!
This was very good, too, with a group of racist cops cum vampires, who insert metal fangs when they're making a bust.
They're led by Dermot Mulroney, a police captain whose son has just been accepted to the 'elite' squad.
Mind blown!!!
I saw him a week ago in "My Best Friend's Wedding", which is almost thirty years old.
What a trip!
But here's a bigger one: the guy who plays his son is Justin Long, who I knew I recognized but I couldn't place him.
That's because I remember him as the nerdy kid that saved the spaceship in "Galaxy Quest" - which came out in 1999, when he was only 21 years old.
Mind blown!!!
Carolyn and I both really liked the movie and will likely see it again.
It ain''t "Sinners", but it has some of that flavor, and that was mighty satisfying for both of us.
I'll have to mention it to the bfe, as he likes vampires.

hand grenades, dragons, and vampires, oh my!

Those were all livening up my A*List dance card this past week from AMC.
What an exuberant welcome back for me!
Not all the movies were A*List, as I paid for that ticket to "Dogma".
It was absolutely worth every penny to see Alan Rickman in that 25-year-old film.
Plus, Matt Damon and Ben Affleck were clearly having a blast!
How young they all seemed!
(smile!)
Not all the movies shown above were movies I actually saw.
Yes, I most certainly did see "Sinners" again, as I absolutely love the blues!
Seriously, that music speaks to my heart!
That is such a unique vampire film, it truly is.
(smile!)
Tina Tuesday yesterday was a double header with hand grenades.
Just what does that mean?
The most memorable features in both "The Phoenician Scheme" and "Ballerina" were the handheld blast devices.
Both were good for just one viewing, then to be tossed away.
At least the hand grenades served a true purpose and had a logical role in the John Wick spin-off, right?
But Wes Anderson's newest was a hodge-podge that flowed slower than cold molasses and made ill use of its stellar cast.
Ack.
So, why doesn't my ticket list in the photo show "Ballerina"?
Well, AMC would not sell me a ticket to that one because its start time clashed with the end time of the movie (with the Scheme) that I had just watched.
For real.
So, as I am a regular, the staff knows my predilection for back to back movies and they fixed me right up, giving me a ticket to the kid movie, but routing me to the screening room with the movie I wanted.
They're the best, they really are!
(smile!)
Today, I was back for the quasi-live-action remake of "How To Train Your Dragon", hoping for the best with this beloved movie... and I was absolutely thrilled with this new version!
Sure, they changed a couple of little things, but they kept the heart intact.
That's because the producers made sure to have Dean Dublois, the writer of the original animated movie, there to script this remake.
I would have preferred that Hiccup was played by a younger actor - after all, he's supposed to be about 16 years old in this one, yet Mason Thames looks every bit of the 18 years in his actual age.
Minor detail with casting, but it matters to me.
If the production company decides to remake the second film in this series, Mason will be just right for that one, which features an older Hiccup.
And they should make sure to leave Toothless and the other dragons alone, as they were exactly right!

vicar of dibley to alice

A similar joke was once told by the Vicar to her lovely, though literal-brained, asistant, Alice. When I saw this in my email, I had to share!
(The little fang-toothed git shown above is a pumpkin I carved several years ago. It's a "permanent" pumpkin, residing in my pantry almost year-round.)

Two nuns, Sister Maureen and Sister Julie, are traveling through Europe in their car. They get to Transylvania and are stopped at a traffic light.
Suddenly, out of nowhere, a tiny little Dracula jumps onto the hood of the car and hisses through the windshield.
"Quick, quick!" shouts Sister Maureen. "What shall we do?"
"Turn the windshield wipers on. That will get rid of the abomination," says Sister Julie.
Sister Maureen switches them on, knocking the mini-Dracula about, but he clings on and continues hissing at the nuns.
"What shall I do now?" she shouts.
"Switch on the windshield washer. I filled it up with Holy Water at the Vatican," says Sister Julie.
Sister Maureen turns on the windshield washer. The little Dracula screams as the water burns his skin, but he clings on and continues hissing at the nuns.
"Now what?" shouts Sister Maureen.
"Show him your cross," says Sister Julie.
"Now you're talking,' says Sister Maureen. She opens the window and shouts, "Get off the car, you fang-toothed git!"

that girl is POISON

Today, a cat was reprieved. She was to have gone to the oncologist for an ultrasound and biopsy.
But he forgot his keys.
The plan was to pick her up from his home and then go to the only-in-town-once-weekly specialized vet for a four-hour oncology visit.
No rain to contend with for this pet's vet visit, but the path would be beset with obstacles as we were to travel in lunch-time traffic. Time would be one of those obstacles, as we needed to complete the journey from the school to downtown to midtown in about 40 minutes. Doable, but no spare time built in.
So after fleeing northward to retrieve the cat, we arrive to to his home to find: he has left the keys southside.
Really?
Really. The keys were left on his desk in his locked office.
Reprieve for the kitty.
Reprieve for me, too. I had not wanted her to go through this procedure. I had made it clear that I was not in favor of this action. I know it will be painful for her and may well shorten what little time she has left in this world. Pain is such an energy-sapping vampire.
As it stands, this thirteen-year-old has done quite well. The cancer now accounts for about a third of her total body mass. You read that correctly: a THIRD of her mass. In about 8 months' time. But she has seemed pain-free, maintaining a good appetite and good bowel habits and good response to her master's touch.
The key to her existence is for her to continue to have a managed pain level. The key is for her pain to be under her control, rather than the other way around.
His key was left southside.
Coincidence or subconscious thought?
Either way, the cat was safe to continue managing her own pain, her own way.
