i am edgar allan poe...

There's one thing for sure: one of those five people were lying.
Surely they were not all bequeathed with that moniker, especially as some were women.
Then, again, I've seen "Inside Out", so I understand about personification of one's strong traits.
In the case of the writer, 'despair', 'loneliness', 'sorrow', 'madness', and more, would be at least as familiar to him as his name.
Perfect!
I'm so glad I chose to see "Poe" tonight.
Halloween, or All Hallow's Eve, cried out to be special for me, and this play by the Armstrong Masquers, with Jayme Tinti as its director, was the only place for me to be.
She told me as much, too.
During her introduction of the play, she spotted me in the front row at Jenkins Hall, taking that opportunity to tell all there that "Faustina Smith is the best audience ever" and that she'd known me since first coming to Savannah in 2012.
Isn't she fabulous?
Such a treat for me!!!
And before that, Pam Sears had come over to give me a hug for coming!
She said I'm the only retired Armstrong professor that supports the theatre.
Such a treat for me!!!
This one-act play contained more treats: a favorite Poe tale, plus one I didn't know.

"The Tell-Tale Heart" was the final scene and was appropriately dark and twisted for this evening's fare - very nice!
How very funny that I'd seen it just a few days ago on "Toon In With Me"!
Bill and Toony were having a show about Poe as part of their "Boo Bash".
Toony misunderstood and was wearing a Winnie the Pooh shirt  - LOL!
They made a short called "The Tell-Tale Action Figure" which was funny!

But it was this play that introduced me to "William Wilson", a truly dark tale, written by this master of the macabre when he was 30 years old.
Such a horrible, deceitful, character Wilson had been, right up until he met someone else who bore that same name... bwah ha ha!!!
Kudos to Heather, Cameron, Morrow, Stephen, and Noemi for a brilliant treat!

Now, I'm back to my warm house, snuggled in for the cold to come.
With the forecast calling for pain - I mean, temperatures in the low 40's - before the sun rises tomorrow, I've already blocked off the sun room.

Yes, the curtain is up, and I'll not be seeing those Butter Yellow walls for the next few months, not until spring.
Rather appropriate to have the ghost of summer in the house!
Bwah ha ha!!!

screwdriver time!

Halloween is coming up,
as is the 15th Annual BYOP
of Georgetown!
Know what that means???

Yep, that's right!
It's high time
for all the little ghouls
to get fresh batteries -
and maybe a good thump
on their backsides -
to bring them back to life again!

This mariachi skeleton
is one of my favorites.

His batteries go
into his shoes,
lending him a bit of
extra stability
for his antics.
That's physics, baby!
Weird science in action!!

Now, he can sing
and dance
as he flashes his eyes
at all the ladies!

And all I needed
to help make him mobile again were new batteries and two tools:
my hands and my Philips-head screwdriver.

Yes, this year I brought my own screwdriver to this party!
As I told Dawn and the Koz, mine has a better handle that fits my hand perfectly, making the task proceed much faster and easier.
Dawn and I had at least half of her motley crew installed with fresh life within the first hour of operation... and that included pulling them out of the six storage bins!
Impressive, right?
Then we took a water break and the Koz took a break with us!
He even brought out a book he's made with all the fossils he's collected at Tybee.
Yes, indeed, fossils of sloths and megalodons as well as several types of common sharks and local fish and other marine life.
Then, he let me visit his "Death Room" which holds the actual physical specimens he's collected over the years - wow!!!
I've been invited to come out on the boat for one of these forays.
Very cool!!!
Afterward, Dawn and I finished up the ghouls in another hour.
Then it was fish - and turtle! - feeding time with Susan and Terry on their deck by the lake out back.
What a lovely way to spend the day!
Right place, right time!

How did I know for sure?
AARP's "Right Again!" trivia had an index fossil as the puzzle beneath the clues.
Wow!

vicar of dibley to alice

A similar joke was once told by the Vicar to her lovely, though literal-brained, asistant, Alice. When I saw this in my email, I had to share!
(The little fang-toothed git shown above is a pumpkin I carved several years ago. It's a "permanent" pumpkin, residing in my pantry almost year-round.)

Two nuns, Sister Maureen and Sister Julie, are traveling through Europe in their car. They get to Transylvania and are stopped at a traffic light.
Suddenly, out of nowhere, a tiny little Dracula jumps onto the hood of the car and hisses through the windshield.
"Quick, quick!" shouts Sister Maureen. "What shall we do?"
"Turn the windshield wipers on. That will get rid of the abomination," says Sister Julie.
Sister Maureen switches them on, knocking the mini-Dracula about, but he clings on and continues hissing at the nuns.
"What shall I do now?" she shouts.
"Switch on the windshield washer. I filled it up with Holy Water at the Vatican," says Sister Julie.
Sister Maureen turns on the windshield washer. The little Dracula screams as the water burns his skin, but he clings on and continues hissing at the nuns.
"Now what?" shouts Sister Maureen.
"Show him your cross," says Sister Julie.
"Now you're talking,' says Sister Maureen. She opens the window and shouts, "Get off the car, you fang-toothed git!"

candy cornucopia

This was the card for my first great-niece. I, of course, just had to add the silly lines of dialogue!
Tomorrow, I'll hand-deliver the card to her at the pumpkin-carving party.
I'll have to make sure my eldest brother is standing close at hand.
After all, he is the candy corn fanatic!

Ghetto-een 2009!

Great fun at the Squirrel Mistress' pad on Friday! The party had but one stipulation: your costume could cost no more than $5. That's right, folks, just five lil' ol' dollars! And yet, we had Professor Chaos, a devilish pair, a Red Hat Witch, Darth Vader, a Viking, a Wrong Holiday, and a Wet Pile o' Leaves. Hahaha!
